The Price of Love

I was watching a movie last night and a character said something that made me stop and think about love. I mean its been on my mind for a while, I'm a single college girl, what do you expect, but this made me think about the truth of love and that it can only be found somewhere that far exceeds comprehension of the human mind.

The line was:
"We are creatures of the underworld, we can't afford to love."

Kudos if you can name the movie. But the bigger point is the truth of the statement. Love is not the fairytales we are taught to believe. Love is a concious decision to care for someone or something else. Its more than an emotion or a feeling, its a concious decision to do what is in the best interest of the other individual. Even if that means personal sacrifice.

How many of us can truely say we enjoy giving up the things we want for another person? How many of us can say we've actually done that? I'm not just talking about loving someone in a romantic way, this love goes beyond that. This is that kind of love you feel for family, friends, roommates, and other people you come into contact with. But is it truely love or some weird desire to be sociable that drives us to create relationships?

How is it a person can be ignored by someone and still desire a relationship with that person? Love takes a high price. Love devestates the body when it is not returned. The desire to love and be loved makes us write silly blogs. But somehow it drives us all.

As sinful humans we can't pay the price of love. Very few of us are willing to lay down our lives for the best interest of someone else. There is only one true Love. Jesus Christ. The man who made the ulitmate sacrifice so that we could love through him. If it was left up to us love would simply be a synonym for lust...as it is much of the time in the media. Jesus made a way for us to love. He is the price...he paid the price with his death. By loving through him, the price is already paid and the love he allows us to have is a gift. Free. We don't have the resources to pay for love on our own.

Verse of the night: 1 John 3:16 and 18 "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers....Dear children, lets us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. "

and John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that who ever shall believe in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life."
