My Graduation Speech
This is the draft of the speech I turned in. Personally I think It could have been a lot better but i didn't have the time or the drive. Oh well enjoy.
LET’S CELEBRATE
Oprah Winfrey once said, “The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.” Her statement couldn’t be truer. Today, a day called graduation, commencement, or the new beginning, is a day set aside to celebrate the lives of a few amazing people. As we celebrate our accomplishments we realize how blessed we are and how much there is to be celebrated. Everyone here today can look upon the graduates and find reason to celebrate.
First, I speak to our siblings and underclassmen. I encourage you to relish the fact that time flies! One day soon you will be sitting here, thinking back over your high school career. Celebrate what you have to look forward to, but also celebrate where you are now. Don’t rush the moment because it will be over before you know it!
Next, I would like to address the School Board, and our administration. As you shake each graduate’s hand, celebrate the look on our faces. Everything you do, all the time you spend making our school a better place is exemplified in the accomplishments of each student. Because of your dedication to us, we were able to grow and learn in a safe and productive environment
To the teachers, Celebrate because you have changed the lives of the students you see before you. For the last few months you have pushed us harder and harder when senioritis had set in. You’ve always kept us going and have made school exciting until the end! Teachers, please find gratification in knowing that you have equipped us with the greatest tool in the world-education. Your love for learning has left its impression and we face tomorrow looking for an opportunity to learn thanks to what you have taught us.
And where would any senior be with out their parents. To all of our parents out there it is your day to celebrate the end of concerts, games, recitals, plays, and every thing else we were involved in. But you must also find triumph within yourselves. The fact is that because of you we are able to stand here today as young men and women ready to take on the world. Your love, support, and guidance have brought us to the point where we are able to go out on our own and create a better place for our children.
Finally I turn to the seniors. We have so much to delight in, but I believe it is most important to celebrate H.O.P.E. Hope is an acronym for celebrating our Honors, our Obstacles, our Potential, and our Eccentricities.
This day was created to applaud our Honors and achievements. We have worked our hardest for the last thirteen years. In that time we have accomplished so much; we have grown, matured, learned, and conquered.
Obstacles have always stood in the way of achieving our goals; but we are here today. We have over come those obstacles. We must celebrate and learn from the events in life that challenge us. Robert Frost once wrote, “The only way around, is through.” We’ve come through many storms, but we are stronger people because of those trials.
Obstacles make us stronger, creating more “P” Potential inside everyone of us. We must celebrate the fact that we possess the potential to revolutionize the world. When I look at our class I see tomorrow’s politicians, doctors, teachers, musicians, actors, homemakers, and businessmen. I see the capabilities of our class feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, teaching the uneducated, and liberating the enslaved. As long as we celebrate and embrace the potential inside every one of us, we can change the world.
E stands for celebrating our Eccentricities. Our unconventional ways set us apart from any generation before us. Each on of us here is different from the person sitting next to us. Our individuality has the potential of creating a diverse world where everyone is accepted for who they are. Our unique personalities are what allow us to be all that we can be. Celebrate who you are!
Seniors if you only take one thought away today, I ask that it be this one: Celebrating our Honors, Obstacles, Potential, and Eccentricities is the only hope for tomorrow. We are the next generation, we must step up, take responsibility, and celebrate our achievements. Vince Lombardi said it best, “It is time for us all to stand and cheer with the doer, the achiever, the one who recognizes the challenge and does something about it.”
Enjoy your day, Celebrate HOPE, and may God bless you all!
Verse of the day: Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord...
I know its used alot but its so true and encouraging
